The KeRRA Participation in this Year’s Agricultural Society of Kenya Shows (2024)
The Kenya Rural Roads Authority participated in a tree planting exercise held during the recent Mazingira Day.
In this year’s Mazingira Day celebration, The Ministry headquarters led by the Cabinet Secretary, Mr. Davis Chirchir, together with the Principal Secretary Roads, Eng. Joseph Mbugua, and officers from the Authority led by the Director General, Eng. Philemon Kandie planted trees in Mombasa County along the Dongo Kundu By-pass shoreline. The tree planting exercise was centred around planting of mangrove trees that in turn play a crucial role in holding soil in place thus stabilizing our shorelines against erosion thus enhancing environmental sustainability.
The event was quite interactive as each and every person had to walk in the muddy terrain that would have even fazed a four-wheel drive vehicle. The team was well clad in their gumboots and field attire more than ready to tackle the task at hand. It was a successful event whereby 10,100 trees were planted with KeRRA donating 2,000 trees.
The Authority looks forward to participating in more tree planting events to continue promoting and pushing the #Jazamiti initiative that is aimed to increase the forest cover of our beloved country. The Ministry’s target is to plant 3,743,435 trees by the end of this financial year 2024/2025.
